J.S. Bach: Church, Court & Coffee: complete!

It’s been a week since our last concert, J.S. Bach: Church, Court & Coffee, in the Stoke Newington Town Hall, and I thought I’d share some photos and comments from the event.

It was a really fun morning with some wonderful music, and the audience seemed to enjoy the setting and the dramatic presentation of the Coffee Cantata. The three singers, soprano Susan Gilmour Bailey, tenor Mark Dobell and baritone Thomas Guthrie gave a fantastic performance, which also involved quite a few members of the audience as potential suitors for the wayward, coffee-addicted daughter, Lieschen.

Selling tickets at Broadway Market

Paul and Mary had a great time at Broadway Market this morning, selling tickets for the concert on Sunday.

We’re all very excited about the Bach programme. There’s an endless list of last-minute things to think about:

the get-in and tuning of the harpsichord
serving up the delicious Allpress coffee in the interval
tickets, programmes, leaflets
lights, staging, microphones
having a nice lunch afterwards!
and so much more…..!

Please tell all your friends about the concert. Tickets are selling well, and it should be a fantastic event!

A review of the Mozart concert

We’ve just received this short review of the Mozart concert in Stoke Newington, on 28th November 2010, from a member of the audience:

The last Hackney Prom I attended was really impressive, and most of all I liked the informality. It’s lovely to listen to music well played in an audience of friends, even if they’re people you haven’t seen for a few decades!
I liked the fact that people sat close to the performers, including the small children sprawling on the floor. The atmosphere was warm and family-orientated, George introduced the works simply and informatively, and the space is excellent.
